18 Months of Owynn

Technically, Owynn turned 18 months on the 14th but he didn't go for his check up until last Thursday.  He's up to 32 inches tall!!  He hasn't gained an ounce in 6 weeks but the doctor wasn't overly concerned.  He mentioned adding Pediasure to his daily diet.  It'll give him some extra calories.  He also gave me a dosing schedule to start O on Claritin.

His allergies have been pretty bad for a few months now.  During the exam, Dr. Neal, noted that his ears were clear but there's a lot of mucous trapped behind his tympanic membrane (ear drum).  Infants and toddlers have eustachian tubes that are wider and shorter and located lower in the skull, than in an adult.  These tubes connect the throat to the ear and can easily become infected with allergies, sinus infections, drainage of mucous down the throat, etc.  We are scheduled to go back in three weeks to make sure the mucous has drained away.    The hope is that the allergies will be cleared up by the Claritin and the mucous will go away.  I hope that's what happens.

Dr. Neal asked about his language and said he should have 10-20 words at this point.  I chuckled.  My child says his numbers 0-10 (not in order but at times he does), colors, octagon, puppy, shoe, silly, ouch, uh-oh, belly, bottle, milk, eat, drink, light, off, up, socks, poo poo, kitty, nana, mama, grandad, sit, baby, boy, bath, brush, diaper, jacket, bye, go, outside, book, amen, help me, thank you, hi guys, see ya, hat, kitty, and on and on.  He was impressed and asked if he was saying two word sentences.  That is the next step for our little chatter box.  He also said developmentally, O is doing very well and is always thinking and seems like a busy guy.  I don't think Owynn sat still except when Dr. Neal was examining him.

He is loving his new school.  He asks to go bye as soon as he gets up.  Just after he asks about the puppy.  Which I have figured out!  The couple that we used to live next to has a dog, that O would visit every day.  We would walk over to say hi to the puppy and Miss Barbara (which he started saying to her last week: Bawbaw).  Yesterday, I took O over to Barbara's house and he was SOOOOO happy to see the puppy!  I told her we would be visiting often as it's on the way home from school.  She sounded just as happy as he was.

Owynn is also singing and dancing more.  He will walk around the house saying "EIEIO" wanting you to sing Old MacDonald had a farm, "upabov" for Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star or show you the spider for The Itsy Bitsy Spider.  There's never a dull moment with him around!

Love and hugs to all!
