As it turns out, Owynn wasn't headed to an orthopedist. He was referred to an orthodist. That's someone who specializes in making orthotics. And in our case, for pediatric patients. Owynn's therapist has a funny way of saying things and I didn't understand what she was saying, apparently.
None the less, on Friday, Owynn and I went to Hanger to visit with the pediatric orthotdist. He was great and was very knowledgeable. He had Owynn walk, without shoes, down and back and said that on a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the worst, Owynn is a 3.
He explained that O has flat feet and his ankles pronate (they turn in). It all stems from his hips and not the bones in his lower legs. That means no visit to an orthopedic surgeon. He did casts of Owynn's feet to create splint for both feet. Owynn will wear them over socks for 10-12 hours a day for a year and hopefully will be done at that point. Hooray for an easy fix!!! The orthotics will be here in a few weeks.
